A provincial government investment of more than $3.3 million is helping 35 rural community organizations strengthen emergency response to keep residents safer.
The Rural Growth Initiative provides community organizations with the opportunity to fund initiatives that strengthen rural community life in PEI, such as building renovations, emergency services, community infrastructure improvements and energy efficiency updates.
"These projects are making our rural communities better prepared, more resilient and safer for Islanders. Being better equipped to handle emergencies brings peace of mind for residents, especially during challenging times. As events like Hurricane Fiona have shown, the services supported by this funding are vital to residents in these communities."
- Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture Minister Zack Bell
Since establishing the Rural Growth Initiative in 2018, the provincial government has provided more than $32 million to strengthen rural life in Prince Edward Island.
