The National Weather Service (NWS) upgraded Volusia County from a Tropical Storm Watch to a Tropical Storm Warning overnight. This change reflects the anticipated timing of the storm's effects rather than an increase in intensity or projected impact level.

The latest forecast indicates a slight westward shift in the storm's path. Volusia County is now expected to experience sustained winds below tropical storm strength and gusts up to 60 mph. Rainfall totals are forecasted to range between 2 and 4 inches, accompanied by 3- to 4-foot breaking waves and minimal storm surge. Rain bands and increasing wind speeds are likely to affect the area later today.

Volusia County is distributing sandbags until 1 p.m. today at the Volusia County Branch Jail, 1300 Red John Drive, Daytona Beach. The Public Works Department is strategically staging flood mitigation equipment. The landfill plans to remain open, and trash collection for residents in unincorporated areas will continue as regularly scheduled. Based on current weather projections, the county does not anticipate opening emergency shelters.

Additionally, beach driving and beach restrooms will be closed tomorrow, and inlet parks may close tomorrow afternoon if conditions warrant. Votran services may be suspended tomorrow afternoon if wind conditions become unsafe. Volusia County Schools have canceled all after-school activities for this evening except Extended Day. All schools and district offices, the Seventh Judicial Circuit, and the Volusia County Clerk's Office will be closed tomorrow.

The public may call the Volusia County Citizens Information Center at 866-345-0345 until 6 p.m. today and between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. tomorrow to receive updated storm-related information. Residents are encouraged to download the new Volusia Emergency Management app, follow Volusia County's social media channels, sign up for the County's newsletter, and visit www.volusia.orgfrequently.
