Heat Advisory - Cooling Centers & Splash Pads

The City of Dayton and the Dayton Fire Department encourage residents to remain cautious and prepared during the excessive heat conditions that the region is experiencing this week. Current weather forecasting indicates temperatures of more than 90 degrees and a heat index over 100 degrees for most of the week (Aug. 26-30).

Dayton utilizes its three recreation centers as cooling centers for residents. These three facilities are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. The recreation center locations are:

  • Greater Dayton Recreation Center - 2021 W. Third St.
  • Lohrey Recreation Center - 2366 Glenarm Ave.
  • Northwest Recreation Center - 1600 Princeton Dr.

Residents are encouraged to stay indoors in an air-conditioned building whenever possible. Those unable to remain inside should stay in the shade as much as possible and hydrate more than usual.

The City of Dayton operates several splash pads across the city that can serve as a fun and effective way for residents of all ages to stay cool (admission is free, open noon to 8 p.m. daily). Locations:

  • Fairview Park, 2262 Elsmore Ave.
  • Five Oaks Park, 329 Five Oaks Ave.
  • Mallory Park, 3037 Germantown St.
  • McIntosh Park, 882 W. Riverview Ave.
  • Stuart Patterson Park, 238 Baltimore St.
  • Walnut Hills Park, 2340 Block of Wayne Ave.
  • Washington Park, 3620 E. Second St.

Residents are also encouraged to check on neighbors for any assistance they may need and to remember the hydration and shelter needs of pets.
