Auto Care Association Launches Video Series Featuring REPAIR Act’s Original Bipartisan Co-Sponsors

BETHESDA, Md. (July 16, 2024) - The Auto Care Association launched a congressional video series featuring original co-sponsors of the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair (REPAIR) Act (H.R.906), a bipartisan federal solution that would ensure equal access to routine repair and maintenance data needed for vehicle repairs.

Featured lawmakers include lead REPAIR Act sponsor Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL) alongside three original co-sponsors: Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez (D-WA), Warren Davidson (R-OH), and Brendan Boyle (D-PA). The Auto Care Association applauds these lawmakers' sustained support for expanding choice and competition in car repairs to provide consumers with timely, affordable auto repair options.

Hear from these right to repair champions themselves about why consumers and independent businesses need commonsense protections like the REPAIR Act.

Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL), Lead Sponsor, REPAIR Act

"If you buy a vehicle, it's your vehicle, and you can fix it, and you can dress it up - you can do what you want with it. And what we find is that, when we want to get simple repairs done to our car, we are literally tied to the original manufacturer…then it becomes much more expensive and a much lengthier process…Once you buy a car, it should be yours and yours to fix."

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), Original Co-Sponsor, REPAIR Act

"Are we going to live in a culture where we rely on technology that's just this black box? Or are we going to hew to…our national heritage of self-sufficiency and being able tofix the things that we rely onourselves?…[I]t's up to us to have the long vision to be stewards of American culture and our vibrancy of our small business economy."

Rep. Warren Davidson, Original Co-Sponsor, REPAIR Act

"Individuals…inherently have a right to fix their own propertyCompetition makes everyone better, and I think we have a vibrant competitive repair market today - for most things. We have some things that are near monopolies, and I think it's important for this legislation to kind of break those down and make sure you protect our consumers."

Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Original Co-Sponsor, REPAIR Act

"The REPAIR Act is very necessary for all drivers. They own their vehicles, they should have the right to have access to the vehicle's data. If Americans lose the right to have access and ownership over their own data, then they are really at the whims off the manufacturers, which will only drive up costs for all auto owners."

Across the country, constituents are urging federal lawmakers to advance the bipartisan REPAIR Act - with over 80,000 letters sent to Congress in support of this commonsense legislation since July 2023, including nearly 60,000 in 2024 alone. Earlier this year, Auto Care Association also launched a right to repair video campaign featuring independent repair shop owners impacted by vehicle repair restrictions.
