JONESBORO - The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Sandra Burns of Jonesboro, who died Nov. 3.
After earning her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Oklahoma, she worked as legal counsel for Southwestern Bell in Little Rock. She later moved to Jonesboro and joined the Arkansas State University faculty in 1984. She enjoyed this new stage in her career very much, and especially her work with non-traditional students.
Very active in the community, she served on the boards of the Foundation of Arts and the Jonesboro-Craighead County Public Library, and she was a member of the Twentieth Century Club and Rotary Club among many others. She was named emeritus assistant professor of business law upon her retirement from A-State in 1996.
Survivors include a sister, three children, two stepchildren, and numerous other family members. Her complete obituary is online.
The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be darkened Thursday, Nov. 7, in memorial tribute to Burns for her service and contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University.
