The City of Mesquite will officially open its very first skatepark on Nov. 9.
The Mesquite Skatepark at Westlake Sports Center, 601 Gross Road, is designed to welcome skateboarders of all skill levels.
The new facility offers a range of features including a four-foot bowl and three main lanes equipped with bank ramps, quarter pipes, grind boxes and rails, as well as a dedicated beginner's area. A shaded area also is available for spectators to watch the action.
"We're thrilled to bring this to our community," said Parks and Recreation Director Elizabeth Harrell. "A skatepark was one of the top features our residents asked for in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and we hope it becomes a go-to spot for local skateboarders."
The public is invited to attend the Mesquite Skatepark grand opening event from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event will feature demonstrations by skateboard professionals associated with the Skatepark's designer, American Ramp Company. Guests are encouraged to bring their skateboards to try out the new facility. Free hot dogs will be provided.
Annual memberships ($25 for residents and $35 for nonresidents) and daily pass options ($5 for residents and $10 for nonresidents) are available for access to the skatepark and recreation centers.
The Skatepark's regular operating hours will be from 12-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 12-6 p.m. on Sunday.
