Elevated fire weather conditions in Ventura County

Elevated fire weather conditions are expected for Ventura and Ventura County through Saturday, October 19.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Ventura County starting at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 20 through 10:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21. Red Flag Warnings are issued when strong, gusty winds meet very low humidities, priming the environment for fire weather. During Red Flag Warnings, residents should be prepared to take action.

The Ventura Fire Department urges you be prepared:

  • Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) may impact Ventura. Visit the Southern California Edison website to see impacted areas and register for alerts. SCE may temporarily shut off power to prevent electric systems from becoming a source of ignition.
  • Register for local emergency notifications through VC Alert. VC Alert is the best resource for obtaining immediate and local emergency information.
  • Secure your property. Take down backyard canopies, store fire pits, and secure yard decorations.
  • Build an emergency supply kit that includes food, water, flashlights, fresh batteries, first aid supplies, medications, and cash.
  • When driving in strong wind, keep both hands on the wheel, avoid distractions, and be on the lookout for downed trees/power lines.
