Beam repair extends timeframe for Cole County Route D bridge work

North Moreau Creek Bridge to be closed through late-November

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - The closure of the Cole County Route D bridge over North Moreau Creek will be extended by several weeks. This isdue to unanticipatedwork needed to repair deteriorated structural steel that was not visible untilthe existing deck was removed.

Construction crews closed the bridge, built in 1965,on Aug. 12, 2024, to replace the deck. Removing the deck revealed that the beams have deteriorated at the expansion joint. This is likely due toweather, water, and salt that collected near this area and caused excessive section loss to the structural steel. Construction crews will make the necessary repairsto the beams, extending the lifespan of the North Moreau Creek Bridge.

Since the deterioration of thebeamswas not visible until the deck was removed, thisunanticipated work will delay the expected reopening of the bridge by roughly 6weeks. Construction crews now anticipatecompleting all work by late November.

Throughout this extendedclosure, a signed detourwill continue to bein place directing motorists to use U.S. Route 50, Missouri Route 179, and Cole County Route C.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
