Leading the Way in Health Care

Jul 26, 2024

Leadership skills are in great demand in today's rapidly changing health care environment. To help meet those needs, Siena is now offering two new academic programs.

The College has just received approval from the New York State Department of Education to offer both a track in health care leadership within its MBA program, and an advanced graduate certificate in health care leadership. Enrollment can begin this fall semester.

"On an ongoing basis we evaluate the business and educational environment in an attempt to offer academic programs that meet evolving market needs," said Rashmi Assudani, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business. "During this process, we identified health care leadership as an area of interest for our students and for the health care market in the Capital Region."

"The health care leadership concentration is appropriate for students whose career focus will be on managing people and processes in a health care setting," said James Murtagh Ph.D., professor of finance and director of the MBA program. "It focuses on the strategic decisions and actions that affect the creation, performance, and survival of health care enterprises."

Students in the health care leadership MBA concentration or the advanced certificate program will reflect on the role of health care leaders in maximizing economic, social and environmental sustainability across the health care system, said Murtagh.

The MBA concentration and the advanced certificate are comprised of the following courses: BAAS600 Healthcare Information Systems & Technology, FINC600 Healthcare Finance, MGMT600 U.S. Healthcare System and Dynamics, and MGMT605 Healthcare
Leadership and Decision-Making.

The Siena MBA also offers concentrations in business analytics, finance, marketing, and strategic management. Advanced certificates are available in cybersecurity, fraud and digital forensics, data and analytics, marketing, and strategic management.
