Cowra Housing Strategy project -Community Engagement commences 28 June

Project Introduction

Cowra Council is pleased to announce that it is preparing a Housing Strategy for the Cowra LGA. The project is funded by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure under the Regional Housing Strategy Planning Fund (Round 2). Local planning consultancy Currajong has been engaged by Council to assist in delivering the project.

The preparation of a Housing Strategy is a strategic planning exercise that aims to investigate key issues and trends impacting on housing supply in our local area and will provide recommendations on a variety of housing matters for future action by local and state governments and other key stakeholders. The project will focus on Cowra Township as the main centre for residential activity and will also investigate the requirements for the eight villages in our Shire which are also important locations for housing.

To commence the project, Currajong (together with Cowra Council) are consulting with key stakeholders in the local housing market in order to develop a better understanding of relevant issues, ideas, priorities and expectations.

Community Survey

As part of this initial consultation process, Council has developed a short online survey and is inviting all members of the community to participate. The survey asks a series of targeted questions, takes only a few minutes to complete, and will be open until 5pm on 09 August 2024. The survey can be completed by clicking on the link below.

Make a Submission

In addition to the survey, Council is also inviting written submissions from the general public on any issue related to housing in the Cowra Shire. All submissions must be made in writing by 5pm, Friday 9 August 2024, to:

The community is reminded that there will be further opportunities for public participation and comment when the Draft Cowra Housing Strategy is placed on exhibition later in 2024.

Half-hour meetings will be available on Wednesday 3 July 2024 and Thursday 4 July 2024.

All meetings will be held at Council's Customer Service Centre, 116 Kendal Street, Cowra.
