OMC Receives More than 1,000 Applications for Licenses and Prepares for the Lottery Process

After months of diligent preparation and a successful application period that began on August 19, 2024, and closed on September 30, 2024, the Office of the Marijuana Commissioner (OMC) received 1,269 paid license applications - substantially exceeding initial projections. Fees received by the OMC total $4,069,000. All applications are currently under review to ensure compliance with the minimum qualifications before advancing to the lottery phase.

The first lottery phase is scheduled to take place onOctober 24, 2024, and will be broadcast live on the Facebook Live platform. OMC will provide additional details regarding the lottery process as this important date approaches.

For three of the license categories-Open Testing Lab, Social Equity Testing Lab, and Micro Manufacturing Licenses for Sussex County-the number of applications received matched or fell below the available licenses in those categories; therefore, no lottery will be required.

However, due to the significant interest in the Retail category, OMC will conduct a separate lottery for all Retail licenses and any other license categories not reviewed in time for the first lottery in October. This lottery phase is tentatively scheduled for late November or early December.

Attached is a chart detailing the application data. OMC looks forward to announcing the names of the businesses selected to receive conditional licenses after the lottery is complete and all recipients have been formally notified.
