MRU #:CP24R002

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Child Protection Section detectives have charged a 47-year-old male with a number of sexual offences against a child, and investigators believe there may be other victims.

In the early summer of 2024, Child Protection Section detectives received a report of a sexual assault against a minor. Upon further investigation, police determined a male suspect had sexually assaulted a 6-year-old boy after befriending his parents and impersonating a police officer to build trust with the family.

"An incident like this is especially concerning when an individual portrays themselves as police in an attempt to build trust," says Detective Kevin Chung with the EPS Child Protection Section.

"Based on our investigation, we believe that there may be other victims in Edmonton or Devon, Alberta, and are encouraging any victims to come forward."

Darryl William Charles Labrecque, 47, faces five charges including sexual assault, sexual contact with a child, sexual counsel of a child and personating a peace officer.
