Denton Continues to Urge Community to Conserve Water as City Approaches Additional Drought Measures

DENTON, TX, Aug. 19, 2024 - Today, Aug. 19, increased water demands brought the City of Denton to the second consecutive day of Stage 2 drought triggers. If water usage exceeds the high-demand threshold of 38 million gallons for a third consecutive day, Stage 2 drought measures will go into effect tomorrow, Aug. 20.

We strongly encourage all residents to conserve water wherever possible. While the city's water supply is healthy, this situation arises from ongoing repairs to two damaged filters at one of our water treatment facilities, which have temporarily reduced our treatment capacity. If we enter Stage 2, irrigation will be limited to one day a week, and restrictions will be placed on pool fills, drip irrigation, and foundation watering.

Last week, the City of Denton was able to successfully avoid entering Stage 2 drought measures due to the collective efforts of our residents and businesses, which we hope to do again this week. Irrigation usage accounts for 70% of our community's water usage, so adhering to your mandatory twice-a-week watering schedule and ensuring your automatic sprinkler timers and alignments are correctly set are some of the most effective ways to help. Your conservation efforts can help prevent further water use restrictions.
