Mayor Bowser to Encourage DC to Shop Small & Local, Highlight Holiday Safety Initiatives

(Washington, DC) -On Monday, December 2 at 10:30 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser will be joined by the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) Director Rosemary Suggs-Evans and Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith to promote shopping local during the holidays. The Mayor will also announce the deployment of Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Recruit Officers for the 2024 holiday season. This initiative aims to enhance safety in key business corridors during the holidays.

To celebrate the holiday shopping season, DSLBD has launched its annual #iBuyDC Challenge, a social media campaign encouraging residents to share their local purchases and spotlight small businesses. Shoppers can post their finds with the hashtag #iBuyDC and inspire others to shop small and support DC's vibrant business community. More information about the campaign is available at dslbd.dc.gov/ibuydc.
