Learning Disabilities Awareness Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Learning Disabilities Awareness Month

WHEREAS, acknowledging people with specific learning disabilities and learning how to be supportive and empathetic strengthens our community; and

WHEREAS, 2.28 million school-age students in the United States identify as having a specific learning disability; and

WHEREAS, specific learning disabilities consist of a range of neurological conditions that interfere with the ability to store, process, or produce information; and

WHEREAS, specific learning disabilities may include dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other disorders; and

WHEREAS, early identification of and programming for students with specific learning disabilities is critical to the individual's wellbeing; and

WHEREAS, as more Virginians become aware and supportive, our citizens with learning disabilities will have even greater opportunity to lead full and productive lives and make valuable contributions to our society;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize October 2024, as LEARNING DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
