First year students set to arrive at VCU this week for move in days

By Mike Porter

Virginia Commonwealth University's Class of 2028 will move into the university's residence halls on campus on Aug. 16-17, marking the start of a new academic year.

VCU's fall enrollment this year is currently tracking 1% higher than fall 2023, and the incoming freshman class is estimated to total more than 4,300 students - on track to be one of the top four largest freshman classes in VCU's history. More than one-third of the incoming class is expected to be Pell eligible, and more than one-third is expected to be first-generation college students. Of VCU's overall new incoming students, approximately 84% are from Virginia, including 88% of all freshmen.

During move-in days, expect heavy traffic and limited parking in the vicinity of the university's residence halls. In addition, Laurel Street will be closed between Broad and Main.
