Protecting children against bullying and harmful online content will top the agenda at the Safer Internet Forum 2024, taking place today 21 November 2024.

Commission Vice-President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová will join policymakers, researchers, law enforcement bodies, youth, parents, teachers, NGOs, and other experts at this yearly event, to discuss the importance of ensuring safe digital experiences and protecting children from inappropriate content and bullying online.

The forum will address these issues through a youth-led approach, with young people taking an active role in planning and delivery of the event itself. Participants will discuss how the Digital Services Act can help, explore the risks of harmful online content and behaviour, including cyberbullying, and share tools and strategies to mitigate these risks.

The Forum is a hybrid event that brings together multiple stakeholders, onsite and online, to join the conversation on building a safer internet for children and young people.

Vice-President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová said:

"We have achieved a lot in this mandate: Safer Internet Centres and the Better Internet for Kids portal guide children and offer advice and support to millions across Europe every year. But our work is just beginning. The next Commission has already committed to act on cyberbullying, and to tackle the negative impact of social media on mental health. We will also spare no effort to protect young digital consumers from addictive, misleading and aggressive commercial practices."
