Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport Nominated For 2024 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award For Best Small Airport

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced today that the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) has been nominated for the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Award for Best Small Airport. An expert panel nominated 20 smaller airports in the United States for this award, with the top 10 receiving the 10Best Readers' Choice Award. Public voting to select the top 10 started on August 26, 2024 and will close on Monday, September 23, 2024. The public can vote online for one nominee per day. Recognitions like this can help us attract new airlines and desirable destinations, so I encourage everyone in our community to show their support and help the ROC Airport receive this prestigious award once again," said County Executive Bello.

Each airport that was nominated serves a smaller number of passengers, yet excels with commercial flight options, easy access, and unique amenities. This is the second consecutive year that the ROC Airport has been nominated for the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Award. ROC finished 10th in the voting in 2023.

Over 2.6 million people traveled through the ROC Airport in 2023, which is the highest passenger volume out of ROC in over 15 years. Additionally, since the start of 2024, the ROC Airport has added nonstop air service to Las Vegas, NV on Southwest Airlines, Fort Lauderdale, FL on Spirit Airlines, and Greenville/Spartanburg, SC, Orlando/Lakeland, FL, and Charlotte/Concord, NC on Avelo Airlines.

Passenger amenities at ROC include: free video arcade and kids play area in partnership with the Strong Museum of Play, free high-speed wifi provided by Greenlight Networks, modern lounge furniture, mix of local and national food concessions, plug-in charging throughout the airport, Hearing Loops for deaf or hard of hearing passengers, and an Aria Network membership to improve access for blind and low vision passengers.
