Now is the perfect time for travelers to book their trips to see the Northern Lights - the solar cycle between this year and 2025 is giving stargazers the highest chance in a decade to see the vibrant display. The breathtaking green and purple glow of the aurora borealis has inspired travelers all over the world to venture out and have the chance to witness this remarkable natural phenomenon.
The demand to see the Northern Lights is on the rise. Since 2019,1 there has been more than a 130 percent increase in stays that offer a chance to view the Northern Lights. During this upcoming aurora season (December-March), listings located above 65 degrees latitude are seeing a 60 percent increase in searches2 with the most booked countries being Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, United States, and Canada.
Tips on how to see the Northern Lights from an Airbnb host
In a viral story that took the internet by storm, Airbnb host Martin woke up traveler and content creator Pency Lucero in the middle of the night when the Northern Lights became visible at his cabin listing in Rörbäck, Sweden. Pency had such a magical experience that she's even hoping to start her own Airbnb in the south of Spain!
When it comes to viewing the Northern Lights, Martin's advice would be to go somewhere with as little light pollution as possible. He said with just a bit of luck and clear skies, travelers will be able to get great views of the Northern Lights.
