United Negro College Fund 2024 Campus Visit

Florida Memorial University is a proud member institution of the United Negro College Fund and extended heartfelt thanks, last week, to the organization's delegation during their 2024 campus visit.

The UNCF delegates were greeted by the ROAR Marching Band and the FMU Cheerleaders before attending a welcoming reception in the lobby of the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts.

FMU is the only historically Black university in South Florida, and the delegates learned about the university's rich history and also about the visions for the future as expressed by Mr. William McCormick; Interim President; Dr. Michael L. Lomax, President and CEO of the UNCF; Dr. Jacqueline Hill, Executive Vice President and Provost; Dr. Rose Stiffin, Chair of Health & Natural Sciences; Dr. Jamila Jackson, Dean of Campus Ministry and University Chaplain; Mr. Akil Rose, SGA President 2024-2025; Ms. Cheryl Wilcher, Director of Library Services, and Ms. Davica Williams, Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs.

In addition to academics and Student Life, there's the Greek Life on the campuses of HBCUs. Black Greek-letter organizations or the Divine Nine are historically significant in our culture and are committed to service, scholarship and legacy. FMU's Greeks were also recognized in A Musical Reflection: Past, Present, and Future, which culminated with a musical tribute by FMU Alumnus, Wildmayer Marcelin and the singing of "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" by the Ambassador Chorale under the direction of Dr. Argarita Johnson-Palavicini.

UNCF support enables the university to carry forward its mission by providing educational access, ensuring that our students have the tools to succeed. FMU is thankful for what they've done in the past and for what they will continue to do in the future because indeed, "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste."
