Standing Committee on European Integration Hosts Head of EU Delegation to Armenia
The deputies of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly met with the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia Vassilis Maragos and the latter's Deputy Jan Plešinger.
At the meeting held on December 18 issues regarding the development of the Armenia-EU relations and deepening of cooperation in different spheres were discussed.
Vassilis Maragos presented the programmes being implemented in different spheres in Armenia with the support of the European Union, the reforms in line with the budget support programmes, as well as the projects planned for the coming year. The Armenian parliamentarians in their turn valued the RA-EU cooperation, underscored the efficiency of the implementing programmes with the EU assistance. In the near future the Committee plans visits to the marzes of the Republic of Armenia for following the procedure of those programmes.
As Vassilis Maragos assessed, with regard to more deepening of the RA-EU relations the passing year was successful, all the targets were addressed, new achievements were registered, one of which is the European Peace Facility. The importance of the EU Observation Mission activity in Armenia was underlined.
Reference was made to the perspectives for promoting cooperation in the economic and transport sectors within the framework of Armenia-EU cooperation, as well as the process of visa liberalisation dialogue with the EU. Vassilis Maragos considered the liberalisation of EU visas an important step for the citizens of Armenia and emphasized the importance of implementing this issue as soon as possible.
