Police continue to appeal for information after evidence that a mother had given birth were located on the banks of the Cooks River earlier this week.
About 4.30pm Monday 27 May 2024, emergency services were called to the bank of the Cooks River near Wardell Road, Earlwood, following reports evidence of a birth were located.
Strike Force Wagonia was established by detectives attached to Burwood Police Area Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Forensic tests have confirmed the baby born is male.
Police hold serious concerns for the welfare of the child and his mother.
Officers are urging the mother to attend her nearest hospital to receive urgent care for herself and her child.
As inquiries continue police are urging anyone with CCTV vision or information about the incident to contact Burwood Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
