Rhode Island Awards $2.75 million to Municipalities for Energy-Efficient Upgrades

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources awarded $2.75 million to municipalities across the state to reduce carbon emissions, lower energy consumption, and enhance municipal energy efficiency. This funding combines $1.5 million from the federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program with an additional $1.25 million from Rhode Island's Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

These grants are enabling 25 Rhode Island municipalities to implement a range of energy-efficient upgrades, including:

  • LED lighting installations
  • Weatherization, insulation, and building envelope enhancements
  • High-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
  • Air source heat pumps for heating and cooling
  • High-efficiency window and door replacements
  • Building control systems to optimize HVAC efficiency
  • Geothermal heating and cooling systems
  • Support for community energy planning and project implementation

These initiatives support the state's climate goals, reduce long-term energy costs, and promote sustainability within Rhode Island communities. An additional ten Rhode Island municipalities will receive EECBG funds directly from the U.S. Department of Energy.
