City of Galveston to expedite emergency coastal permitting

On July 9, 2024, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) adopted emergency rules that enable the City of Galveston to expedite emergency coastal permitting for areas impacted by Tropical Storm Alberto and Hurricane Beryl. The emergency rules became effective immediately, and they allow for emergency repairs for dune restorations, emergency stabilization and repair of damaged habitable structures, and emergency stabilization and repairs to dune walkovers.

A Quick Guide information page for each authorized activity and an emergency permit application may be found at the link below:

The emergency rules are authorized for 120 days, with the option for a 60-day extension from GLO Commissioner. The standard $500 permitting fee for beachfront construction permits will not be required on any project that meets the requirements of the emergency permitting.
