In response to the ongoing Vineyard Wind Turbine Blade Crisis, we are providing the latest and most critical updates as of this afternoon, July 30.
On Monday, July 29th, several sections of the damaged GE Vernova turbine blade detached from the hub and sank to the ocean floor. Small pieces of foam debris were released from these sections and observed floating on the water. The debris primarily consists of small, popcorn-sized pieces of foam, with some larger pieces and limited fiberglass fragments possibly mixed in.
Vineyard Wind crews are searching for the remaining GE Vernova blade debris via vessels offshore and collecting what is found.
Weather Forecast
Debris Wash Ashore
Based on wind forecast and U.S. Coast Guard modeling, it is expected that any foam and other debris not collected offshore will wash ashore on Nantucket's south side beaches, primarily on Wednesday, July 31st, and Thursday, August 1st. The majority of debris is anticipated to be small, popcorn-sized pieces of foam.
REMINDER TO THE PUBLIC
Only trained employees or contractors are responsible for collecting and removing the debris.
