EL PASO, TEXAS - On December 8, 2024, Cindy Perez was promoted to Commander of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Cindy has served the Sheriff's Office for over 22 years. Commander Cindy Perez was joined by her family and loved ones at the promotion ceremony, including her husband Andrew Perez, daughter Jaqueline Ortiz, son-in-law Edgar Parra, brother Dr. Abraham Lopez, and her parents, Laly Duran and Joe Lopez.
Throughout her career, Commander Perez has shown exceptional commitment and leadership within the department, joining the ranks of law enforcement in October 2001. She achieved the rank of Corporal in May 2015, demonstrating her ability to lead and mentor fellow officers. In December 2019, her hard work and determination were recognized again when she was promoted to Sergeant. Commander Perez took a moment to express her gratitude to Chief Kevin Lanahan and Assistant Chief Scott Romero for their outstanding leadership and unwavering support. Her husband, Andrew Perez, who pinned her badge during the ceremony, has also been a pillar of support, helping her balance her demanding role with their personal lives.
She has supervised both sworn detention officers and civilian staff, earning a reputation for her leadership and commitment to achieving departmental goals. Her contributions were honored last year when she received a Unit Citation Award from Sheriff Wiles. Outside of work, she is a devoted mother to three accomplished daughters: one studying veterinary medicine, another completing her nursing degree, and the youngest specializing in children's therapy.
