Treasurer Stacy Garrity Returns $230,000 of Unclaimed Property at Williamsport Crosscutters Game

Williamsport, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity today announced that more than $230,000 worth of unclaimed property was found for fans of the Williamsport Crosscutters at the game against the Frederick Keys in Williamsport on July 21. Treasurer Garrity threw a ceremonial first pitch ahead of the game.

"What an amazing event! We really hit it out of the park finding unclaimed property for fans of the Crosscutters. We connected more than 50 people with unclaimed property, including one person who will be getting back an incredible $223,000 and another who will receive $4,550. I want to thank the tremendous people in the Crosscutters organization for helping to make this such a great day."

"We were honored to have Treasurer Garrity and the Treasury staff at Journey Bank Ballpark. Even several of our employees found they had unclaimed property! It was a treat for our fans to have this easy and convenient way of checking to see if they had unclaimed property."

Fans who attended the game, a 3-2 victory for the Crosscutters over the Frederick Keys, were assisted by Treasurer Garrity and Treasury's outreach staff as they searched for unclaimed property.

"Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field was built in 1926. That makes it about 13 years older than Treasury's vault! Having the chance to return unclaimed property at Pennsylvania's oldest operating minor league ballpark was a real treat."

Unclaimed property can include things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance policies, contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes and more. State law requires businesses to report unclaimed property to Treasury after three years of dormancy.

Treasury is working to return more than $4.5 billion in unclaimed property to more than one in ten Pennsylvanians. The average unclaimed property claim is worth about $1,600. Treasurer Garrity has returned more than $700 million in unclaimed property to hardworking Pennsylvanians, businesses, nonprofits, and local government agencies.
