Bonavista RCMP stops vehicle driving on rim, driver owing more than $24K fines

A 66-year-old man from Princeton has been compelled to court by Bonavista RCMP for a number of traffic offences that occurred on August 10, 2024.

On the afternoon of August 10, Bonavista RCMP were conducting traffic enforcement on Route 230 near the community of Port Union when a vehicle was observed traveling on the highway on the rim of one of the front wheels. The front of the vehicle was dragging on the pavement as the vehicle traveled at highway speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver tried to evade police by driving into the backyard of a residence in Port Union.

The man was located by police and was found to owe more than $24,000.00 in fines. He is charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, and driving without due care and attention.

He is set to appear in court on September 26, 2024. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
