Washington, DC
- "We are pleased with the news shared by OPM today showing more carriers will be providing infertility benefits to federal employees in the coming year. We applaud those carriers who are choosing to do the right thing and offering infertility benefits, and we applaud the leadership of the Biden/Harris administration and OPM in working to increase this coverage. Federal employees have every right to expect full access to the care that they need including coverage for reproductive medicine.

That said, the federal government - the nation's largest employer - still has work to do and an example to set. Until OPM requires that every plan provide appropriate coverage for reproductive care, federal employees will face unnecessary burdens should they need medical assistance to build their families. Without such a requirement, coverage is at the whim of insurance companies and can be dropped from one year to the next. Even with the increased number of plans offering fertility coverage, countless federal employees will face learning that they both suffer from infertility and are stuck in a plan that does not cover it. This remains unacceptable and we hope leaders will work with us quickly to right this wrong."
