The Baytown Chamber of Commerce hosted the 32nd Annual Beacon Federal Credit Union Public Safety Recognition Luncheon this afternoon. Join us in congratulating Engineer Zach Cox for being awarded 2024 Public Safety Award of Excellence! Other nominees included Lt. Mike Wills and Lt. Jeff Welch.
Engineer Zachary Cox, a dedicated public servant with a background in both military and fire service. Growing up in a Navy family, Eng. Cox developed a strong foundation of resilience and adaptability, moving frequently before graduating high school in Nevada. In 2011, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic with the 82nd Airborne Division, serving a tour in Afghanistan where he earned the Combat Medical Badge. After his service, he completed his paramedic certification and joined the Baytown Fire Department, where he's excelled as a firefighter/paramedic.
Zach has become a vital member of the department, specializing in hazardous materials and technical rescue. His certifications include rope and confined space rescue, with his demanding training putting him on track to become a certified Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Specialist-an elite designation held by fewer than 300 people worldwide. Beyond his technical expertise, he actively supports his colleagues as part of the Baytown Fire Department's Peer Support Team.
Outside of work, Zach is a devoted family man, sharing a full life with his wife, Lauryn, and their four children. Together, they enjoy outdoor activities, and Zach instills in them the values of service and community. His dedication recently stood out during a roadside rescue where he intervened to help a crash victim in distress. Zach's commitment to his family, his community, and continuous learning exemplifies his deep sense of duty and his role as a true role model in Baytown.
Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, Engineer Cox!
