PRESS RELEASE

On September 11, 2024, the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit in conjunction with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Neighborhood Recovery Unit, arrested a Poughkeepsie man and a sixteen-year-old juvenile for possession of a gun following a pursuit in the city of Poughkeepsie at approximately 6:40 p.m.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop of a 2012 Toyota Highlander for violations of the vehicle and traffic law on Main Street in the city of Poughkeepsie. The operator failed to comply and led the Troopers on a pursuit to Terrace Lane in the town of Poughkeepsie. The vehicle occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. With assistance from our law enforcement partners they were apprehended without further incident in the nearby area. Investigation determined the operator, Daquan Jahan Killian, age 31, and a sixteen-year-old passenger, both of Poughkeepsie, were in illegal possession of a 9mm Glock model 43 handgun.

Both subjects were arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class E felony, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices, a class B misdemeanor. Killian was also charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Killian was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail. The sixteen-year-old was turned over to the juvenile's guardian.
