Mayor Wheeler celebrates 1 year of sheltering guests at Clinton Triangle

Clinton Triangle, Portland's first large-scale shelter, is celebrating its one-year anniversary of opening and welcoming guests.

Since July 24 2023, 618 total individuals have spent at least one night at the shelter. In total, over 170 individuals have moved into housing.

"Clinton Triangle stands as a model for all of our City-run shelters, and I am proud of the growth and progress over the last year," Mayor Wheeler said. "Getting folks off the streets and into housing remains the ultimate goal."

There are currently 158 pods on the site.

Clinton Triangle service provider Urban Alchemy now employs over 80 local staff members, providing enriching job opportunities.

Clinton Triangle Site Services:

  • Individual pods are designed with ADA accessibility in mind (doorway ramps added as needed). Pods can also shelter two individuals who seek to be together
  • A small number of tent platforms for individuals who may not want to move into a pod right away
  • Meals
  • Restrooms and showers, with some ADA-accessible restrooms
  • Laundry access
  • Community space for building connections and meeting with social workers
  • Decompression areas
  • Pet areas
  • Storage space for personal goods
  • Access to public transit/transportation
  • Electricity (i.e., for phone charging)
  • Wi-fi
  • Designated parking areas
  • Perimeter fencing
  • Regular trash collection and hazardous waste removal
  • Livability enhancements like planter boxes, artwork, etc.
