Cultural Heritage Journalism Forum

Cultural Heritage Journalism Forum

Due to the significant and critical role of journalists in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, especially in public awareness raising and promoting ICH elements, considering the journalists' missions, opportunities, and challenges in the field of ICH is essential. Therefore, organising this event leads to deliberation, idea exchanging, experience sharing, and networking in the mentioned areas, as well as bridging the gap between media and ICH safeguarding.

Background
The Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia, under the Auspices of UNESCO (Tehran ICH Centre) in collaboration with Mana Naqsh Heritage Institute organised the "Workshop for Journalists Working in the Area of ICH" on 5 & 7 March 2024, aimed at awareness raising on the 2003 Convention and its implementation, relevant terminology, and the role of trained journalists in raising public awareness and governmental knowledge and capacities. Continuing the missions of Tehran ICH Centre as a regional ICH centre and Mana Naqsh as an accredited NGO, on implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, alongside celebrating the first International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, this event has been organised.
