WASHINGTON - After reports that the Palestinian Authority (PA) will attempt to downgrade Israel's status at the United Nations (U.N.), U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is joining her colleagues in introducing the Stand with Israel Act to cut off funding to U.N. agencies that expel, downgrade, suspend, or otherwise restrict the participation of Israel.
"Allowing Israel to be threatened while it is in the fight for its life exposes more of the blatant antisemitism at the United Nations," Ernst said. "There must be consequences if the U.N. allows Israel's status to be downgraded, and they should no longer receive U.S. taxpayer dollars. I'm proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our greatest ally in the face of discrimination by ensuring not a dime goes to terrorist sympathizers."
Background:
Ernst has been a strong critic of the U.N. and their initial inaction on Hamas' use of sexual violence against Israeli women as a "weapon of war." Ernst called for the permanent end of taxpayer funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that helped Hamas plan and carry out the October 7 terrorist attacks.
Ernst also cosponsored the No Official Palestine Entry Act of 2024, which would cut off assistance to entities that give additional rights and privileges to the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Ernst has worked tirelessly to hold President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris accountable to their "ironclad" commitment to Israel, especially while Americans are held hostage by Iran-backed Hamas.
