CITY OF CHARLESTON BEGINS CLEANUP EFFORTS FROM HURRICANE HELENE

The City of Charleston is currently assessing damage and providing clean up efforts from Hurricane Helene.

Key Points:

National Weather Service Charleston has forecasted the following conditions:

  • Flooding/rainfall/tides:Little to no additional rainfall is expected this afternoon. This afternoon's high tide is at 5:09 p.m. and is projected at 6.8 feet with rain unlikely.
  • Winds: Through about 1:00 p.m., expect maximum sustained winds of 25-30 mph, with gusts 40-45 mph. The afternoon, maximum sustained winds are projected to be 20 mph with 25-30 mph gusts.

Openings and delays:

  • City Offices:City of Charleston offices had a delayed opening this morning at 10 a.m. City offices are now operating normally.
  • Schools: Charleston County School District is conducting virtual learning today.
  • Recreation:
    1. The Municipal Golf Course and driving range opened at 12:00 p.m. today. Call 843-795-6517 for updates on daily course conditions.
    2. Pools and buildings are open.

Garbage and Debris:

  • Thursday's garbage and trash operations were completed by the end of the day.
  • Today's garbage operations were delayed until 10:00 a.m.
  • There are five streetsweepers with supplemental backhoe crews out cleaning up debris.
