Complete the survey by 5 pm, November 11, 2024. Provide feedback on the creativity and public appeal of the proposed public artwork for the new Willard Park Clubhouse.
Use the City's online forum to share input on three mosaic art proposals for a clubhouse being built at Willard Park.
These artworks aim to enrich the clubhouse experience by beautifying its context while reflecting the multi-layered history, architecture, and park community's culture. You'll be asked about the extent to which each proposed piece achieves those goals.
Your insights will be shared with the Willard Clubhouse Artist Review Panel, who will make a recommendation to the Public Art Subcommittee. Those recommendations will then be forwarded to the Civic Arts Commission for a final decision in December 2024.
Complete the survey by 5:00 pm on November 11, 2024, and share it with others.
The Willard Park Clubhouse Artist Review Panel has selected three finalists:
Each finalist's mosaic wall proposal measures 18.5 feet wide by 10 feet high for a space featured in the interior lobby of the future south Berkeley clubhouse.
While all public input is highly valued, please note that the survey alone will not determine the final decision.
Willard Clubhouse has long served elementary-aged children participating in Berkeley's after-school and summer day camp programs. The new facility, designed by ELS Architecture and Urban Design, aims to better meet community needs.
The final design features a 1,700 square foot all-electric building that includes a large community room, a kitchen, all-gender restrooms, and an office. The community room will have a dividing wall, allowing multiple, simultaneous and different uses of the space.
The building is expected to be completed in summer 2025. The mosaic installation is planned for December 2025.
The Civic Arts Program fosters community connection by engaging artists to create impactful works that enrich our city. We collaborate with artists to bring forth permanent and temporary public art projects in various spaces throughout Berkeley, including parks, plazas, civic buildings, and more. Our goal is to enhance the built environment and reflect the distinctive character of our vibrant city.
You can explore public art in several locations throughout the City. Find artworks and their locations on our interactive Public Art Collection database and check out the latest exhibition in the Cube Space Gallery.
Your feedback will help guide the decision and help shape our community's artistic landscape. Please review each proposal and submit the survey by 5:00 pm on November 11, 2024.
