Henan province launches third TIR logistics hub in China

The third IRU-accredited TIR logistics hub has opened in China. It unites all essential transit services under one roof.

The Henan TIR Logistics Hub was inaugurated last week in Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

Just like the other two TIR hubs that opened earlier this year, the Henan TIR Logistics Hub consolidates all necessary transit services under one roof: customs clearance, warehousing, cargo handling, route development, and transport-capacity matching. It offers a one-stop-shop for TIR transport companies, customs services and supply chain players.

IRU Director of TIR and Transit Tatiana Rey-Bellet said, "I am delighted to witness another major milestone for Zhengzhou.

"The Henan TIR Logistics Hub will create significant opportunities for collaboration among all parties, enhancing supply chain efficiency and facilitating seamless cross-border movements to countries from across Asia and Europe."

"IRU will continue to offer its full support to Henan and China in its efforts to advance the international road transport sector. We encourage more industry partners to join us in these endeavours," she added.

IRU Chief Representative of East and Southeast Asia Ran Wang said, "In recent years, Zhengzhou has been actively promoting the high-quality development of international road transport with TIR, which laid the foundation for the creation of the new TIR Logistics Hub in Zhengzhou."

"With the strong support of customs, transport authorities, local governments and industry partners, we will work closely with all parties to promote the development of the hub and share the opportunities with the sector, continuing to inject new vitality and bringing new opportunities to China's international road transport industry," he added.

The Zhengzhou Tuopu Urban Management Service will operate the Henan TIR Logistics Hub. The facility includes 16,000 square metres of container space and parking area and 6,000 square metres of warehousing capacity.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local government representatives, customs and TIR transport companies such as ZZHY.

The first two TIR logistics hubs are located in western China, Kashgar and Urumqi.

What is TIR?

The United Nations-backed TIR system enables goods to be shipped from a country of origin to a country of destination in sealed load compartments that are controlled by customs via a multilateral, mutually recognised system.

TIR streamlines procedures at borders, reducing the administrative burden for customs authorities and transport and logistics companies. It cuts border waiting times significantly, saving time and money.

In China, TIR procedures can also be handled at inland customs offices. This is especially beneficial for out of gauge goods, perishable food, dangerous goods, e-commerce, precision instruments and other goods with high requirements for transport safety and timeliness.

The TIR system connects China with over 30 countries across Eurasia, offering more secure transport options that are over 80% faster and 50% cheaper.
