UC's College-Conservatory of Music hosts the CCM Conducting Symposium on Nov. 21-23, 2024. Open to emerging and established conductors, participants will have the opportunity to conduct CCM ensembles and receive instruction and feedback from CCM Division Head of Ensembles and Conducting and Director of Wind Studies Kevin Michael Holzman and guest artist Mark Davis Scatterday, Professor of Conducting and Ensembles and Director of the Eastman Wind Ensemble at Eastman School of Music.

The two-day event coincides with Scatterday's residency with the CCM Wind Ensemble and CCM Wind Symphony as the ensembles prepare repertoire for their public concerts. Participants in the CCM Conducting Symposium will work with the ensembles on Mozart's Serenade in B-flat Major, K. 361 "Gran Partita;" Stravinsky's Octet for Wind Instruments, Darius Milhaud's Suite Française, Vincent Persichetti's Divertimento for Band, Op. 42; and Dwayne Milburn's American Hymnsong Suite.

Ten participants will be selected based on auditions and application materials; deadline to submit is Oct. 1, 2024. All participants will engage in five conducting sessions with the ensembles, seminar sessions with faculty and will also receive conducting feedback in addition to video recordings of the conducting sessions.

Additionally, 15 auditor slots will be filled upon registration on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditors will be present for all conducting sessions and seminars, but will not conduct the ensembles.
