Whitehorse RCMP make an arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle

Whitehorse RCMP arrested Mr. Shaun Brackenbury in possession of a stolen vehicle that had been stolen from the compound of Capital Towing on the night of July 17, 2024.

In addition to the two vehicles noted to have been stolen in the initial news release of July 18, police learned that two other vehicles were also stolen from the compound, including a red Nissan Pathfinder.

Three of the stolen vehicles were located abandoned, the red Nissan Pathfinder was located by police.

On Friday July 18,2024, a police officer observed the stolen Nissan Pathfinder in the downtown core. The Crime Reduction Unit, General Investigative Service, Emergency Response Team and the Police Dog Service were engaged to assist in the investigation. The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as thirty-year-old Shaun Brackenbury, a resident of Whitehorse.

Mr. Brackenbury was apprehended and arrested on Range Road by police and charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited from doing so, as well as for two counts of breach of probation. Additional charges include, possession of property obtained by crime and willfully obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty. Brackenbury was held in custody for a court appearance on Monday July 22,2024. Shaun Brackenbury was subsequently released on a court order with conditions and a court appearance of July 31.
