Nassau University Medical Center Opens New Mental Health Clinic

Renovated Facility Will Improve Patient Care, Ensure Greater Access to Mental Health Services

East Meadow, NY - Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) proudly cut the ribbon on its newly remodeled new mental health clinic, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide comprehensive mental health services to some of Long Island's most vulnerable populations.

"J Building," located adjacent to NUMC on the campus, has been providing adult outpatient psychiatric services for over 42 years. These services include comprehensive psychiatric care and psychotherapy, delivered by both psychologists and psychiatrists.

"Mental health is fundamentally important to a person's overall health and quality of life. The opening of this clinic marks a new chapter in NUMC's long history of serving the needs of our community," said Matthew Bruderman, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC). "We are proud to provide a space that is not only modern and welcoming, but also equipped with the resources necessary to offer comprehensive mental health services to be people in crisis."

The clinic represents a significant advancement in NUMC's ongoing commitment to addressing mental health needs within the community by serving all individuals, regardless of their insurance status, and accepting referrals from across Nassau County, including the Nassau County Courts, Nassau County Jail, and the Nassau County Division of Social Services. The clinic also offers a wide range of services, including individual and group therapy, psychiatric evaluations, and crisis intervention. This development is part of NUMC's broader efforts to enhance healthcare services and ensure comprehensive care for all patients.

"Opening this new clinic is a vital step in our mission to provide accessible and high-quality mental health care to our community," said Megan C. Ryan, Esq., Interim President and CEO of NUMC. "Our patients and employees deserved a better space. Our commitment to supporting the mental well-being of our community is stronger than ever, and we are proud to offer a space that truly reflects that dedication."

Previously, the clinic lacked essential facilities such as elevators and central air conditioning, and the building was in a state of disrepair. Now, services will be offered from a newly renovated clinic located on the ground floor of NUMC. This updated space features enhanced security, air conditioning, and modern amenities, providing a more comfortable environment for patients and staff.

The renovation of J Building was estimated to cost $2 million. However, converting the new space required only $62,000 which will be offset thanks to generous donations of $25,000 from the law firm of Abrams Fensterman, LLP, and $1,000 from the East Meadow Kiwanis.
