Human Bird Flu Cases in California

Currently, there are no cases of bird flu in Sacramento County. The risk to the general public remains low, although additional cases may arise among those in regular contact with infected animals.

People who work with infected poultry or dairy cows can protect themselves by using personal protective equipment (PPE):

  • NIOSH® approved respirator
  • Goggles or face shield
  • Coveralls
  • Head cover
  • Boots
  • Gloves

These individuals should contact their local health department right away if experiencing symptoms of bird flu, including eye redness/discharge, fever, cough/sore throat, muscle aches and shortness of breath.
