Yesterday, the Foreign Ministry's Global Economic Promotion department, in coordination with the Mexican Federation for the Aerospace Industry (Femia), inaugurated the Mexico Pavilion at Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) 2024 in the United Kingdom. Mexico's participation aims to attract investment to its aerospace industry.

Femia's President Carlos Robles Álvarez, CEO Luis Lizcano, and Famex President Disraeli Gómez Herrera led the inauguration. The Economic Development Secretaries from Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chihuahua, Guanajuato and Querétaro joined the event, along with executives from Mexican aerospace companies, industry clusters and universities.

Rodrigo Morales Castillo, Director General of Global Economic Promotion, represented Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena. He emphasized the Foreign Ministry's commitment to attracting investments that benefit Mexican society, and highlighted Mexico's capability, innovation, and talent to compete and excel in the aerospace industry, a priority for the Mexican Government.

During the Airshow, Foreign Ministry officials met with representatives from leading aerospace companies including BAE Systems, Embraer, GKN Aerospace, Aernnova, Safran, and TT Electronics. These companies expressed interest in expanding their Mexican operations and announced future investments and collaboration agreements to strengthen the country's aerospace ecosystem.

In 2023, foreign direct investment in Mexico's aerospace industry totaled $156 million. From January 1999 to September 2023, cumulative investment in the sector totaled nearly $4 billion. The industry now comprises over 368 operational plants in Mexico that have created about 50,000 direct jobs and 190,000 indirect jobs.

Mexico ranks 14th globally in aerospace industry production, 12th in parts exports, 12th as a destination for aeronautical investment worldwide, and 1st in Latin America and the Caribbean.

For over 75 years, the FIA has been a leading aerospace and defense industry event, attracting about 1,200 exhibitors from 44 countries and more than 70,000 international visitors.

The Foreign Ministry, on behalf of the Government of Mexico, reaffirms its commitment to attracting investments that will benefit its citizens.
