Daikin Takes Stage at COP 29 Seminar

OSAKA, Japan, November 5, 2024- Daikin Industries, Ltd. announces its participation in a seminar on building decarbonization that is being jointly hosted by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment (MOEJ) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MILT) on November 18th. Entitled "Japan's efforts and possible contribution toward building decarbonization" the seminar will be held at the Japan Pavilion for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, from November 11th to 22nd, 2024. Katsuyuki Sawai, Senior Executive Officer for Daikin, will take the stage as a speaker and lecture on heat pump technology used in space and water heating and how that technology can contribute to building decarbonization.

The building sector accounts for 37% of CO2 emissions and 34% of final energy consumption globally. In 2023, the G7 Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in Sapporo and the G7 Urban Development Ministers' Meeting in Takamatsu, Kagawa noted the importance of decarbonizing buildings and their lifecycles in combatting climate change. Additionally, "Buildings Breakthrough," a platform for transforming the sector of buildings and construction, was launched in the same year at COP28 to further demonstrate the global importance of decarbonization in this sector.

In the background of this global trend, representatives from the MOEJ, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and participating companies will take the stage and present initiatives and technologies that contribute to building decarbonization. Daikin will explain the characteristics and importance of the widespread adoption of heat pump technology, which utilizes heat in the air and others to provide space and water heating and has the capability to significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to combustion heating systems that use fossil fuels, such as gas and oil. In addition to the lecture, Daikin will participate in a panel discussion with representatives from the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (Global ABC) organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the European Commission (TBC), and others to discuss measures to accelerate the decarbonization of buildings.

The MOEJ will be hosting the Japan Pavilion at COP29 as a venue to globally showcase Japan's excellent products, services, and initiatives for combating climate change through exhibitions and seminars.
