Alcoa appoints new Australia region leader

Alcoa has appointed Elsabe Muller as Vice President Operations - Australia and President Alcoa Australia.

Alcoa Corporation has appointed Elsabe Muller as Vice President Operations - Australia and President Alcoa Australia, effective October 2024.

Based in Perth, Elsabe will be responsible for the Company's bauxite mining and rehabilitation, alumina refining and aluminium smelting activities in Western Australia and Victoria.

Elsabe joins Alcoa with considerable local and international resources sector expertise gained from more than 30 years working with BHP. Her career spans four continents and six commodities, including aluminium. She has been Asset President for mining operations in Australia and held senior leadership positions in areas including technology implementation and commodity marketing. Elsabe is currently BHP's Group HSE Officer responsible for the strategic direction of the company's Health, Safety & Security, and Environment practices.

Alcoa Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Matt Reed said Elsabe had extensive leadership experience within both operational and commercial settings and a passion for developing people in a diverse and inclusive environment.

"Elsabe has a track record of delivering results across many areas of focus for Alcoa including environmental stewardship and safety, as well as operational excellence," Matt said.

"As a key member of our global operations leadership team, she will be focussed on driving continuous improvement in our operations in line with evolving stakeholder expectations."

Elsabe said she was delighted by the opportunity to lead Alcoa Australia and to return her focus to producing aluminium, a material that is vitally important to our lives today and the green energy transition.

"I am excited to be leading one of Australia's few truly integrated resources companies that has a proud history of not only responsible mining, but downstream processing to generate considerable positive impact," she said.

"I look forward to applying my industry experience to help drive positive outcomes within our business and value creation for the stakeholders we serve, whilst also learning from the vast experience that I know resides within the Alcoa team."

Tanya Simmonds will continue to lead Alcoa Australia in an interim capacity until October. Alcoa thanks Tanya for her continued leadership during this transition period.
