LATROBE, PA - Saint Vincent College has been chosen to participate in the inaugural Institute on AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum sponsored by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).

The fully online institute is designed to help departments, programs, colleges and universities respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence (AI) presents for courses and curricula.

"I am pleased and honored to participate in the AAC&U Institute on AI alongside a remarkable team of colleagues from across the College," said Dr. Elaine Bennett, dean of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. "This opportunity allows us to explore the potential of AI as a tool in a way that engages with our Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts identity. Generative AI is being used in a wide range of professions and we recognize that, as an institution of higher education, we need to have a coherent plan for preparing our students for that reality. Our AI Institute team is excited to build on the initiatives many of our faculty colleagues are already taking to explore this and to bring what we learn to help to contribute to and coordinate those efforts."

The institute launched Sept. 12 and will conclude with a capstone event April 10-11, 2025. The institute will engage participants via monthly meetings and webinars as they develop and implement AI action plans for their classrooms, curricula and campuses.

"The rapid emergence of generative AI has resulted in profound opportunities and challenges for nearly all disciplines in higher education," said C. Edward Watson, vice president for digital innovation at AAC&U. "This institute is designed to help campuses navigate these complexities, engage in curricular and pedagogical reform and address the array of related concerns associated with AI in higher education, including questions about policies, ethics and the future of higher learning."
