Help Grand Prairie Conserve Water by Being Water Smart

Published on July 31, 2024

The City of Grand Prairie is asking all residents to conserve water by being Water Smart this August!

Following the tips and guidelines below will help us protect one of our most valuable resources and make sure there's enough water to go around.

City Guidelines for Sprinklers

  • Do not use landscape/lawn sprinklers between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on any day.
  • No landscape/lawn sprinkler use on Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • Even numbered addresses may water using landscape/lawn sprinklers on Mondays and Thursdays.
  • Odd numbered addresses may water using landscape/lawn sprinklers on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • When watering, a constant stream of water should not be allowed to flow into the street.
  • Watering during precipitation is prohibited. Rain sensors are required on newer sprinkler systems.
  • Hand watering and soaker hoses are allowed anytime outside of 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Don't Let the Summer Sun Dry Up Your Swimming Fun

  • The best way to prevent evaporation is by purchasing a pool cover.
  • According to a study by the National Pool Industry Research Center (NPIRC), pool owners can save a considerable amount in water savings by covering their outdoor swimming pools.
  • In fact, pool covers can reduce evaporation by 95%!

Take Care of Toilet Leaks!

  • A toilet that continues to run after being flushed can waste up to 200 gallons a day.
  • You can check for a toilet tank leak by adding several drops of food coloring to the tank.
  • Don't flush! If the toilet is leaking, color will appear in the toilet bowl within 30 minutes.

Protect our Pipes!

  • When using flushable wipes, please throw them into the trash, and do not flush them down the toilet.
  • This keeps the wastewater lines clear and helps avoid costly clog removal at your home and the wastewater plant.
