Edith Cowan University appoints Professor Clare Pollock as new Vice-Chancellor

Edith Cowan University (ECU) today announced the appointment of Professor Clare Pollock as its new Vice-Chancellor and President. Professor Pollock joins ECU as a deeply experienced university leader.

Currently serving as Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at Western Sydney University, she has previously held executive roles at Flinders University and multiple leadership positions at Curtin University.

Professor Pollock graduated from Oxford University and the University of London with a PhD in Psychology. Her research career has focussed on applying psychology to improve safety especially in people's use of technology. Widely recognised in the higher education sector for her high impact, vision and clarity of purpose, Professor Pollock has proven capability to identify opportunities and catalyse action to deliver success.

Notably, she has been pivotal in strengthening Western Sydney University's role as a place-maker for its region, delivering positive economic and social benefits to the community. This included the successful delivery of the 18-storey Bankstown City Campus in 2023.

ECU Chancellor Denise Goldsworthy AO expressed confidence in Professor Pollock's appointment, stating, "The appointment of Professor Pollock marks a significant moment for ECU, as we continue our sustained growth and strategic advancements. Professor Pollock will augment our research initiatives, spearhead the opening of ECU City and continue to drive our impressive progress on student satisfaction and global rankings."

Professor Pollock remarked, "I'm excited to be returning to Western Australia to lead ECU at such an exciting time in its evolution. I plan to build on the outstanding success of ECU to date. The University's commitment to excellence in teaching, student satisfaction and equitable access to education resonates deeply with my own personal and professional values."

"I aim for us to increase research impact, engaging with industry and government to provide solutions on issues that matter to our communities. I look forward to working closely with ECU's talented staff and students to achieve these goals." She concluded.

Professor Pollock will join ECU in late September 2024.

ECU Chancellor, Denise Goldsworthy concluded, "I would like to sincerely thank our outgoing Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Steve Chapman who has been an exceptional leader, making invaluable contributions during his tenure.
