Paris Olympics: Follow the Triumphs and Controversy

From the very start, controversies have been as much a part of the Olympics as the tearful athletes receiving their gold medals. London hosted the first modern Summer Games in 1908, when American runner John Carpenter was disqualified for impeding the path of England's Wyndham Halswelle in the men's 400 meters, and American shot-putter Ralph Rose refused to dip the U.S. flag to salute King Edward VII.

This week, the Olympics return to Paris for the first time in 100 years, and yes, there's already some controversy. Russia and Belarus have been banned. Skeptics doubt the Seine will be safe for swimming events.

But if anything can outrun the long shadow of controversy, it's the inspiring stories that never fail to capture the world's attention. What will the 2024 Games bring? New sports such as breakdancing and skateboarding. And hopefully a little respite from our tumultuous news cycle. To follow all the excitement, these Flipboard Magazines will be updated regularly:

Our coverage will also include an Olympics email newsletter, starting on July 26, the day of the opening ceremony. We'll send emails every few days for a total of eight issues. Flipboard users who have registered their email addresses and follow #Olympics and #Sports topics will receive it. To check if you're subscribed, visit the "Email Subscriptions" page under Settings on the desktop.

Whether on your phone or at your desk, make sure you join us for another Olympic journey. We can promise you this - it won't be boring.
