Senator Jim Brewster Announces Over $12 million in School Facilities Improvement Grants and Local Share Account Grants

Harrisburg, PA, October 23, 2024 - Today, Senator Jim Brewster announced $3,656,785 in School Facilities Improvement grant funding and $8,407,681 in Local Share Account (LSA) grant funding for the 45th Senatorial District.

"These school facility improvement grants will help school districts make the necessary upgrades to things like roofs and HVAC systems, and the LSA grants will help local leaders complete a variety of projects to improve our communities," Brewster said.

School improvement grants were awarded to six school districts, with eight projects receiving awards from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG), and 41 projects received awards from the Local Share Account (LSA).

The PSFIG provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.

The LSA, administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) and authorized under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues to support projects in the public interest.

Public School Facility Improvement Grants, totaling $3,656,785:

• Baldwin-Whitehall School District - $250,000 for McAnnulty Elementary School;
• Baldwin-Whitehall School District - $250,000 for Whitehall Elementary School;
• Elizabeth Forward School District - $1,601,610 for Elizabeth Forward High School;
• Gateway School District - $305,175 for University Park Elementary and Cleveland Elementary Schools;
• Plum Borough School District - $500,000 for Plum High School;
• South Allegheny School District - $250,000 for South Allegheny Elementary School;
• Steel Valley School District - $250,000 for Barrett Elementary School Roof; and
• Steel Valley School District - $250,000 for Steel Valley Middle/High School;

Local Share Account, totaling $8,407,681:

Senator Brewster also thanked several state officials for their roles in bringing these funds back to the district, noting his partnerships with State Representatives Nick Pisciottano, Brandon Markosek, Matthew R. Gergely, Abigail Salisbury, Dan Miller, Joe McAndrew, and Andrew Kuzma.
