Dramatic Reading of the Brunswick Resolves on 250th Anniversary

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (July 16, 2024) - For three days in July 1774, delegates from 11 New Jersey counties convened in New Brunswick to determine New Jersey's course of action in the emerging American Revolution.

The Brunswick Convention concluded with the adoption of the Brunswick Resolves, joining New Jersey to the "common cause" of the 13 colonies and choosing five delegates to represent the state at the First Continental Congress, which convened in September across the Delaware River at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia.

On the 250th anniversary of the conclusion of the Brunswick Convention, join Paul Soltis and the New Brunswick Historical Society for a dramatic reading of the Brunswick Resolves with a discussion of the context and consequences as our state entered the American Revolution.

Paul Soltis is the historian for the State of New Jersey at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites, George Washington's winter headquarters and historic home of the founder and first president of Rutgers in Somerville.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place in the Carl T. Valenti Community Room at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, 60 Livingston Ave. on July 23 at 7 p.m.
